Servers: What percentage of bills do you make in tips on average?

I’m a new server at a restaurant and have been on the floor about three weeks. I average 15% almost perfectly (I get some big and some very small with few average tips mixed in). I’d like to know what more experienced servers earn so that I have an idea on what I can expect as I gain more experience.

Don’t count on continuing that percentage. The economic jobs report came out and more people have become unemployed. Yes, I agree that business is soooo sloooow that people are dining out less. And, when they do, they are leaving tips closer to 8 or 10%, more within their budget. At least the restaurant is getting customers to enable it to stay in business. Good luck!!
