Ms SQL server versions

In a production environment due to licensing requirements and functionality available, I recommend you use either Enterprise or Standard editions.
Standard Edition
This standard edition of SQL Server 2000 has most of the features that come with the application. Does not come with the necessary characteristics for \ "scale up \" and \ "scale \ "To support large databases and data warehouses.
Enterprise Edition
The Enterprise Edition includes all features available for SQL Server. Him can scale to levels of performance required to support high transaction systems like websites and data warehouse solutions.

MSDE is a toned-down version of SQL Server which is free for noncommercial use use and certain limited commercial use. MSDE and SQL Server are Microsofts database platforms. Can be distributed with commercial products of registering with Microsoft – in most cases this distribution is also free. The product is primarily designed to compete with MySQL, and make users familiar with SQL Server, So when they migrate to larger needs that will choose to purchase the retail version of SQL Server, instead of another database solution.
One of the main drawbacks of the edition of SQL Server MSDE is the fact that there is easy to use client tools distributed with it. What can realitively difficult use. If this is the case, I recommend purchasing Vale Software Manage MSDE. This software is inexpensive and may allow for purcahsed to manage all versions of SQL Server, even if its purpose is to support MSDE. This tool provides users with easy to use client tools that allow you to manage your MSDE installation without having to use complicated command syntax driven environment itself.
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Editions
SQL Server 2005 is the latest version of SQL Server. Like its predecessor, has 6 versions. Microsoft describes each version as follows:
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
Enterprise Edition includes the complete system enterprise data management and business intelligence features. SQL Server Enterprise offers the highest levels of scalability and availability of all editions SQL Server 2005. In addition, it is optimized to run on x64 and Itanium-based servers which helps to achieve higher levels of scalability and availability of databases.
Standard Edition SQL Server 2005
Standard Edition is an affordable option for small – and medium-sized organizations. Includes functionality necessary background for non-critical e-commerce, data warehousing, and line of business solutions. Standard Edition is optimized to run on win32, x64 and Itanium-based servers.
SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition
Workgroup Edition is the data management solution for small organizations or groups working within large organizations. Includes all necessary features central database for data management in an affordable and easy to handle packages.
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
Express Edition helps developers build robust and reliable applications by providing a free, easy to use, and robust database in protecting and managing information within and outside of the applications is critical. This edition of SQL Server 2005 equivalent of MSDE Server.

SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition

Microsoft SQL Server 7 Editions

The Enterprise Edition
The Enterprise Edition runs on Windows NT Server Enterprise Edition and Windows 2000 Advanced Server / Datacenter.
This edition can use up to 32 CPUs and more 2 GB of RAM, but also allows full text search and SQL Server Failover Support.
Desktop Edition
This edition was in Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT Server / Workstation 4.0 with Service Pack 4, Windows NT Server Enterprise Edition and all editions of Windows 2000.
This edition has some restrictions:
maximum 2 CPU
any publication for transaction replication
no failover SQL Server Support
without full text search
2Gb RAM Maximum
maximum of 4 GB per database
Conclusion
Microsoft is pushing SQL Server 2005 for any new installation, although many people are still using SQL Server 2000, and in some extreme cases the previous versions, if you are using versions previous update soon as I would recommend Microsoft SQL Server has recently fallen 7 Support. The issues both versions (2000 and 2005) are very similar in what they offer in terms of basic functionality and if you are planning on using SQL Server in production environment no matter which version I would recommend through Enterprise Edition or Standard Edition.
