Core Xeon
The new Intel Xeon quad-core Nehalem processor’s speed?
I’m thinking about buying an apple mac pro (the $2499 one) and I was wondering about its clock speed. What would a 2.66Ghz quad-core nehalem processor translate into a single core processor in terms of Ghz? I want the average speed you’d get on any normal day. Forwarding my thanks to all those who answer.
P.S. Try to give some sources to back your claims if you can.
WHOA! Bjorn is WRONG!
A 2.66ghz single core runs at 2.66ghz, correct but when you have 4 (in Nehalem) with integrated memory controllers operating independantly you have an EFFECTIVE speed of 2.66 x 4, HOWEVER a CPU’s true speed is measure in how many cycles per second it can calculate.
What you WANT is total output. In that case check geekbench results for the MacPro. You’ll see total output for a 4 core vs quad core and other CPU’s in Mac and PC.
