What are OFNP, OFNR, OFNG And OFCG? Understanding Fiber Optic Cable fire resistance

Like copper cables, NEC (National Electrical Code) requires indoor fiber cables be marked with their fire and smoke ratings. NEC requires all indoor fiber cables be marked correctly and correctly installed for its intended use.

According to NEC, a building within the area is divided into three sections: full, elevators and general use areas.

:: What is a Plenum area?

A plenum is an area of building space used for air flow distribution system air. In most buildings, the area above a false ceiling or a raised floor is used as the return air (air source) for air conditioning. The fall ceiling and raised floors are also where fiber cables are often installed. If wiring is burnt, which emit toxic gases and smoke would be fed with the rest the building by the air conditioner. As a result, people could be injured even though they are far from the fire.

:: What is an area vertical?

A vertical space is a floor opening, shaft or duct that runs vertically through one or more plants

:: What Target area is the General?

Any other area that is not full or elevator and on the same floor is a general use zone.

:: Fiber Optic Cable Fire Smoking and brand rankings

OFNP Cables:

OFNP means non-conductive fiber optic House. OFNP cables have fire resistance and low production smoke characteristics. They can be installed in ducts, plenums and other spaces used for building air flow. This is the highest fire rating of fiber cable and not others cable types can be used as substitutes.

OFCP Cables:

Conductive fiber means OFCP House. OFCP cables have the same fire rating smoking as OFNP cables but they have a truss to carry out or member of the central force which is usually steel. OFCP cables must be grounded at both ends. As a result, OFCP cables can not be installed on the same cable tray or conduit supply.

OFNR Cables:

OFNR vertical means non-conductive fiber. OFNR cables are used in areas that are vertical shafts or vertical construction works from one floor to another floor. OFNR cables can not be installed in areas they have not fully addressed fire and smoking rating as Plenum rated cables. Full OFNP cables can be used as substitutes for OFNR cables.

Cables OFCR:

OFCR mean vertical optical fibers. OFCR cables have the same fire rating characteristics as OFNR cables but they have conducting armor or a member of the central force which is usually steel. OFCR cables should also be grounded at both ends. OFCP cables can be used as substitutes for OFCR cables. OFCR cables can not be installed on the same cable trays or conduits as power cables.

Cables OFNG:

OFNG means non-conductive fiber optic Purpose General. They are typically used in horizontal cabling, single-story applications. OFNG cables can not be used in enclosures or bands. OFNP and OFNR cables can both be used as substitutes of OFNG cables.

OFCG Cables:

OFCG optical fiber means in general use. They have the same fire characteristics as cables but have OFNG conducting armor or central strength member which is usually steel. OFCG cables must be grounded at both ends. Do not install on the same cable tray or conduit as power cables.

The Cable Guy

The Cable Guy

$2.87

If you think Jim Carrey’s comedy is an acquired taste, think of The Cable Guy as a potent bottle of bittersweet wine. The film has a lingering aftertaste, but it is just a bit too dark, a bit too extreme to invite another serving. On the other hand, you’ve got to give Carrey some credit for risking his $20-million paycheck (and a big chunk of box-office revenue) on this black comedy. A needy, psyc…
