Is this considered animal cruelty?
I have been driving past this horse-and-donkey pair every day to and from work for the last year, and it’s breaking my heart!
These two animals are kept in a fenced-in area of about a half an acre. . .if that. The poopy mud is about 6 inches deep (in the entire enclosure) from March – November. There is not one blade of grass in their paddock. For shelter, they have an old shed that is starting to cave in.
These poor animals stand up to their hocks in their own poop every day. They don’t have room to run, a proper shelter, or a proper life. I see their owner feed them hay, so I know they are getting fed, but they are still very thin.
It makes me sick because the owners have two new motorcyles in their driveway, while their horse and donkey are standing covered in their own crap about 20 feet away.
I would offer to buy the pair of animals from these people, but I haven’t any place to house them.
Is this considered animal cruelty? Could I annonymously report this?
Yes that is cruelty and yes you can anonymoulsy report. You can call local animal control and they will direct you to the people who deal with large animals.
